My mum loved her Bernina.  This post has a bit of my Bernina story, as well as a bit about the Bernina Canada Giveaway.

Do you have a Bernina story too?
I  would love to hear it.
First, here is some info about the Bernina Canada free giveaway.

Bernina Canada Giveaway Plus Coupons

Bernina Canada has a free giveaway for a fabulous sewing machine right now plus you can download coupons for savings on sewing machines when you register for the draw.
Even if you have a Bernina, enter this free giveaway. Then, you can share the love of sewing with someone who may be less fortunate.
Perhaps there is someone in your neighbourhood like me, who lost everything when they had to flee to a battered women's shelter.

Bernina Canada Sewing Machine Grand Prize -Fabulous!

Bernina Canada is giving away an incredible sewing machine. Have you seen the top of theone model?
Yes, that is what the grand prize is !
Can you imagine the  faboulous embroidery you could create for quilts with that machine?

My Bernina Story

My mother had a Bernina sewing machine and loved it.
I remember her sewing all kinds of clothes for us on her Bernina.

Bernina Seamstress Age Four!

At the tender age of about 4, I decided my younger brother needed a bow tie on his T-Shirt. Mum was busy and for some reason, I really don't know why, he needed a bow tie right then!
Grabbing my brother's hand,  I  headed to the Bernina in our parents' bedroom.

Clambering up on the sewing stool, I put his T-shirt and a scrap of fabric under the presser foot as I had watched mum do for countless hours. Then, slowly turned the big wheel on the right back and forth until the material was secured to the shirt.
After putting the T-shirt back on my brother, I discovered the tie was a bit lopsided so I "fixed it" using one of the pre-threaded needles mum kept handy in her pin cushion.
I was quite proud of myself.
Mum, on the other hand, was not so appreciative of my efforts.

Oh, did I forget to mention the absolute mangled mess my efforts made of the bobbin?
AND mum had to cut my brother  out of his brand new T-Shirt at bed time!
Note to self: Put sewing machine under lock and key?

When my mother first got her Bernina it was quite innovative having several different stitching patterns that she used to embellish our clothes.
Bernina continues to be at the forefront of sewing machine innovations today.
BTW
Did you know Bernina has have three different sewing machines that are super for machine quilting?
It was news to me!

How a Bernina Could Be a Blessing Now

I  would love to win a Bernina 880 E to use at the women's respite we are trying to establish in our home in Northern Ontario. It would be wonderful to be able to share my love of sewing with other women and help them learn this great life skill.
While we were blessed with the opportunity to  pick up a portable sewing machine for $5 at the Cochrane Ontario Food Bank shop, a Bernina 880 E dream machine would be a great help for making quilts for women and children to have on their beds and take with them when they leave.
Imagine being able to whip up individualized aprons, scarves, night clothes and pillowcases!
While a top of the line Bernina embroidery machine might not be necessary for making window quilts to help lower heating costs,  it would be wonderful to be able to embellish the quilts with inspirational words.

It certainly would be wonderful to have a new Bernina to use.
The Bernina giveaway ends January 2017  and there are prizes each month for top sharers.
